My Sphynx is mean

Hi all, I have a year old neutered Elf Sphynx, my first Sphynx. I have had him since he was 8 weeks old and have treated him like a prince. No matter how much I talk to him, pet him and provide him treats and generally baby him I find him to be sort of mean and hissy. I don't think he particularly likes me. I have had cats my entire life and I am perplexed at his behavior. I am retired and home most of the time and I pay attention to his body language.
He doesn't like to be petted except on his head and will bite if his body is petted unless he is in the mood to let you. He almost never purrs and no head butts. He does talk to me and follows me from room to room and then he won't and ignores me.
I don't bug him or force affection and I am perplexed by his very aloof and somewhat mean behavior Makes me very sad.
Is this the nature of the beast or does he just not like me.My other cats, three DSH are loving devoted and purry. He plays with them daily. Thanks for any insight.
